Openings under BOUNtenna Undergraduate Training Program
Two-stage undergraduate training program
Upon acceptance, the trainee receives access to a drive link where all the reading materials and video tutorials are located for both stages.
In the first stage, the trainee is expected to learn how to use Ansys HFSS (a licensed CAD tool on the university campus). There are four video tutorials available for this purpose.
1- Introduction to antennas
2- HFSS Ansys introduction
3- Dipole antennas video tutorial
4- Patch Antennas video tutorial
The trainee receives a full day of training, including a refreshment course on Maxwell’s equations and an introduction to antenna parameters. (Note that most students are 2nd or 3rd-year students; hence they do not have any background on Antennas and Propagation.) At the end of the first stage, the trainee is expected to design a patch antenna for a given standard. The trainee reports their results using an IEEE conference template. This way, the trainee learns how to prepare figures and graphs following the template guides and becomes fluent in LaTeX.
In the second stage, the trainee is expected to prototype their designed antenna using either LPKF or Voltera V-one. A prototyped antenna is measured, and measurement results are included in the first stage report. This stage aims to make trainees familiar with the equipment in the laboratory.
During this training, the trainee chooses one of the ongoing projects. The trainee attends the weekly meetings of the selected project and the round table of the research lab. A partner is assigned to each trainee as a guide.
